Hello to all former coworkers! Very glad to see the guest functioning again. I love retirement and the four seasons of beautiful New England. Through two winters I've whistled and sung happy tunes while shoveling snow, even in the dark before work. I work part time as a school bus driver and really enjoy it, especially now while I have the summer off. Boy do they ever need a union! The owners drive Mercedes, BMWs, etc, while the workers have no medical, paid sick leave or vacation. I miss you all and would love to hear from you. Hugs to everyone! Chris Flynn

We need a union, here in polk county florida, (out of state), we need a union that management can not join. Bus drivers here in polk county make just over 6,000, a year, and currently have been missing pay, when brought to the attention of supervisors, the impression from them is that they wish us to just forget about it, also the fueling site here is constantly closed, when that is brought to the attention of that manager, she responds that we could just find another job, because its inconvient for her to open that site, so the next available site takes most drivers an hour and a half to fuel and return. Most drivers are a little apprehensive to file a greivance with our union in fear of losing their jobs. Please help us in Polk County Florida.

Hi to all at Metro. Retirement so far is fine. That's really fine!
I haven't found any useful employment yet but I keep searching at the pace
that is typical out here. Thnaks to the UTU live came, there
is no way I could miss Santa Cruz. It seems to be 80 degrees
here all the time. Write when you get a chance and when you visit
the islands lets have lunch or take a drive or something.

David,
Checking out the latest news of Local 23. In the information you have posted on the formation of the Union has an incorrect date. You refer to the drivers who did not recieve their bid guarantee as one of the catalysts for forming a union. The date was 1979 and 1980...not 1989 and 90. Just so happens I was hired in December of 1979 and remember well the fact that hte Grummans did not arrive on time and we were in training with no busses to drive. Greetings to UTU Local 23 from the Santa Cruz Wobblies. Wondering what you all think about the issues being dealt with by the Regional Transportation Commission. It seems odd to me that the SCMTD's representatve on that Commission should vote against any further study of rail or trolley service to Watsonville. I ask because it seems to me that members of Local 23 would have more intereset in a trolley line which will provide more union jobs, better union jobs and more stable union jobs than yet more highway construction. In addition, it would provide for more environmentally-sustainable union jobs--a particular concern of those of us in Santa Cruz Street & Highway Transport Workers Industrial Union 530 Branch--IWW. We are all presently members and workers at PedX, the human-powered, polution-free delivey service in town. Anyway, you're thoughts are welcome.
By the way, you should all stop by the old home of the Metro administrative offices at 224 Walnut. It is now the home of the RhiZone Infoshop (where we Wobblies have an office) and the Hub for Sustainable Tranpsortation.
Yours in Solidarity,
For the OBU

Great site guys! I am a former trainmen, Local 439, on the old Cotton Belt. I took out about 10 years ago and I am now running a consulting and investigation business, working with DLC's in Texas. I have enjoyed viewing your web page very much, and I am sure I will be back often for a visit. Keep up the good work and keep fighting for your rights. We took such a beating on our statewide elections this time, I almost ashamed to tell anyone I am from Texas. Watch out for George Bush. He's coming out.

Now that the Starr report is out, and the worst is known, I've been hoping that congress would take swift action and then move on with the business of the country. But it seems our representatives are settling down for a long process, and I'm not sure I can stand it. Worse, I'm not sure the country can stand it.
I'm helping launch an Internet campaign to tell our representatives that we've had enough. The President should receive censure from the Congress and we should all move on. And the independent counsel investigation should end. It's time for the public interest to come first, and for our representatives to show real leadership.
Will you help? Just go to http://www.moveon.org to sign the petition. It only takes a minute. And then if you send a message on to your friends and colleagues, the ball will really get rolling. It's up to us.
Please feel free to forward this message to anyone you think would be interested.
Thanks,
Gary Rickman

Comments: A majority of Part time operators in locals 1563-1564-1565-1607-1608
believe they are not being properly represented. Therefore they have formed a Part Timers Association (PTA) in hopes of resolving some of their concerns. However our chairman has made a point to try and convince our other Brothers and Sisters that they are nothing but a bunch of misinformed union members trying to form a sub-union. This is untrue as the PTA has tried to talk with Bro. James Williams who refuses to talk to the part-time operators as a group, but is willing to "talk to them individually".
